The chances that you’ve heard of this place already are big! It is known worldwide for its awesome beaches, culture, food and peace. Bali, is an island and province of Indonesia. It is a very popular tourist destination, with tourism being 80% of the economy of the island. The province is located in the Coral Triangle, known as the Amazon of the oceans, it is the place where you will find the highest biodiversity of marine species. For comparison, in this area you will find about 500 reef coral species, which is 7 times more as in the entire Caribbean.
You thought that a latte for U$ 5,00 was expensive!? In Bali you will find the most expensive coffee in the entire world. It is called Kopi Luwak, and the beans are collected from the digestion of a Civat Cat. The cat just eats the ripest and finest coffee cherries but it does not digest the bean. It is worldwide famous, so while in the island you should give it a try.
The province is also famous around the globe for its beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue waters, and while that is indeed one of the most beautiful features of the island, there are also some beaches with black sand that are going to blow your mind, is different from everything you’ve seen before. For instance, visit the Lovina Beach, a beach where the sands comes from the cooled lava of the Mt Agung volcano.
In case you were left wondering with the last paragraph, yes, Bali has two active volcanos: the Mounts Agung and Batur. In fact, you can hike the Agung and get to the highest peak of Bali at over 3100 meters, said by many to be one of the most spectacular views of the island.
You may know this place from Julia Roberts’ movie Eat, Pray, Love. The Tirta Empul is a temple complex just outside Ubud and is made of several pools filled by water fountains. The water coming out of it is said to be sacred, and many people come from far in the country and in the world just to bathe in this place. It is totally worth the crowds!
The island is home of the majority of Hindu people living in Indonesia, and for this motive it is also home of many magnificent Hindu temples, one of them is the Ulu Wata. Besides being one of the most beautiful places to visit in Bali, it also offers a breathtaking view of the coast and the ocean. One of the best times to visit is around the sunset I would say, from there you will be able to experience one of the most amazing sunsets of the whole island, with the fishing boats sailing into the ocean and passing through the light beans that the sun reflects on the sea.
Also if you are fan of monkeys, you are going to be happy to know that around the temple you can visit a colony of happy naughty monkeys that will make your day brighter.
Of course that being a beach destination, water sports are something you can not miss in this place, and being located in the Coral Triangle makes it even better.
One of the best things about traveling and being in a new place is being able to learn and experience the local culture, which is something very rich in Bali. Go to Ubud to do that, the cultural heart of Bali, where you will find many art galleries dedicated to ceramics, sculpture, jewelry and many more. If you are fan of the Indonesia cuisine, you may also take a few cooking classes while there.
Last but not least, don’t forget to check the turtle sanctuary, located in the Serangan island. The place aims to educate its visitors on the several dangers caused by the pollution to the beautiful turtles. The institution rescues injured turtles and care for them before releasing them back into the wild life.
